Terms of service

These terms cover headwaterswire.com and our paid alerts. The site and the alerts are run by Headwaters Wire ("we"). By using the site or subscribing to alerts you agree to them.

The site and the newsletter

Our stories and the Downstream newsletter are free to read. You may quote and link to our stories with credit to Headwaters Wire.

Alerts

Alerts are emails about new documents published by agencies, regulators and courts, filtered to the themes, dockets, agencies and places you choose. Titles, dates, docket numbers and deadlines are quoted as the issuer published them, with a link to the original. We work to be complete and prompt, but we cannot promise that every document is covered or that an alert arrives within a set time. Alerts are information, not legal or professional advice: rely on the original document.

Subscription, trial and renewal

The alerts subscription costs US$700 a year, plus any sales tax or VAT. A new subscription starts with a 14-day free trial, once per person and card: a returning subscriber starts without a trial. A card is required to start it; you are charged when the trial ends unless you cancel before then. We email you a reminder at least 7 days before the first charge. The subscription renews each year until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account; it then stays active until the end of the period you paid for.

Our reseller

Payments are processed by Stripe and sold through Link, which handles billing, tax and receipts.

Use of alerts

Each subscription is for one named person, delivered to that person's own email address. You may occasionally forward an individual alert to a colleague or client. You may not send alerts to a shared, group or mailing-list address, set up automatic forwarding of alerts to others, post them to an intranet, channel or list, resell or republish them, re-serve them to others through a feed, tool or service, or use them to build a competing database or service. Colleagues who want alerts can start their own subscription. We may monitor how alerts are used to enforce these terms, and suspend or cancel a subscription used in breach of them; our refund policy applies.

Your account

Keep your sign-in links private. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms or harms the service. You can delete your account and data at any time from your account page.

Liability

The site and the alerts are provided as they are. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Changes

We may change these terms. We will email subscribers about material changes at least 30 days before they apply to a paid subscription.
