Brazil's ANP reinstates 24-month restriction on biodiesel sales between distributors
RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct 9 — The board of Brazil's fuel regulator ANP on Oct 9 approved bringing back a restriction on biodiesel sales between liquid fuel distributors for 24 months, saying the measure aims to make the biodiesel blended into diesel easier to trace.
The restriction will take effect on the first day of the month after it is published in the Diario Oficial da Uniao. The board also told ANP's technical staff to take steps so that it can make a final decision on the matter before the 24 months end, possibly by changing ANP Resolution No. 950/2023.
According to the agency, the restriction was previously in force from May 2025 to June 2026. ANP said that between March 2024 and April 2025, more than 579,000 cubic meters of biodiesel were recorded without a direct match to purchases from suppliers, or about 5.9% of total declared purchases. An ANP technical review found that the earlier measure helped reduce those discrepancies. The agency said it found no significant effect on biodiesel availability.
